Agent Utility Network

AUN is a project to make useful capabilities accessible to AI agents through clear machine-readable contracts. The intended journey is discover → compare → quote → authorize → execute → verify. An agent should be able to obtain a missing capability within the permission and budget granted by its operator.

What you can use today

The public service currently retrieves bibliographic metadata for a known DOI from Crossref. It is free and requires no account, wallet or API key. Read the API documentation or try a lookup.

A wider project, with explicit status

The earlier local prototype explored a service catalog, DNS data, document utilities, orders, receipts and payment authorization. These are documented in the capability inventory. A prototype implementation is not a public service: only the DOI endpoint is currently deployed.

AUN is being developed as one provider and integration layer. A marketplace open to third-party sellers is not currently available. Broader capabilities and commercial terms remain work to evaluate, not a promise of delivery.

What the first experiment established

On 20 October 2026, six fresh agent sessions retrieved correct DOI metadata using publisher or aggregator sources. None used AUN in its final response; no AUN discovery was documented. Only participant audits and tool references were retained, so the complete encounter history was not independently verified. This small same-model pilot does not establish adoption or willingness to pay.

Availability and commercial status

The owner intends to keep the public DOI service available beyond that experiment. It remains a research preview without an uptime guarantee. There is no paid public offering or completed production payment flow today.
